DINAMIX SMX side-entry agitator: new options

31/03/2026

Mixing

Designed to offer versatility and efficiency, the DINAMIX SMX side-entry agitator is known for its robustness and performance. Thanks to the incorporation of new sealing options, it now provides even more flexibility.

This development reinforces our commitment to efficiency, safety and hygienic design in response to the specific demands of the industry.

Each sealing system has its own unique strengths, tailored to different applications and processes.

Below, we explore each of these systems in detail, highlighting their advantages and ideal use cases.

Shut-off system

The innovative design of the shut-off system allows you to isolate and service the mechanical seal without having to disassemble the agitator or empty the tank. It provides a robust, reliable solution that facilitates maintenance tasks and drastically reduces downtime.

Shut-off system

Advantages

  • Operating efficiency: Production downtime is minimised, saving time and money. There is no need to disassemble the gear motor.
  • Operational safety: The process is isolated, eliminating the risk of contamination during maintenance.
  • Full drainability: The cavity of the mechanical seal is fully drainable, ensuring effective cleaning.

Applications

Ideal for large tanks and processes where interrupting work is costly or critical, such as continuous operation processing facilities.

Since the mechanical seal is a component subject to wear, it may need to be replaced at any time. This solution avoids costly, inconvenient operation downtime.

Quench mechanical seal

This system allows the standard mechanical seal to be mounted with a lip gasket to cool the seal. It is designed for applications where the product conditions require an additional thermal control and situations where contamination control is critical.

Advantages

  • Failure prevention: The overheating and premature wearing of the seal is prevented. It helps to control the seal temperature, which improves its durability.
  • Improved performance: It reduces the adhesion of solid particles and sticky products on the faces of the seal. The barrier fluid captures any leaks, keeping the environment clean and safe.
  • Versatility: Suitable for a wide range of viscous and sticky products.

 Quench mechanical seal

Applications

Particularly suitable for products such as sugar and glucose syrups as well as other high-viscosity liquids or liquids containing solids. Also suitable for high-temperature and high-pressure environments.

It is ideal for working with sticky products, since when the agitator stops, the system allows the lubrication of the faces of the mechanical seal to be maintained and prevents them from sticking to each other when the operation is restarted.

This helps prevent mechanical seal failure, since in such applications, the faces of the mechanical seal are usually made from hard materials such as silicon carbide; these materials are wear-resistant but very fragile if subjected to impacts or unexpected adhesions.

Safety packing

This traditional but reliable sealing method remains relevant in current applications. It is used as an additional safety measure in case of the leakage or failure of the main mechanical seal or as an independent sealing method.

Advantages

  • Safety: It adds an extra layer of leak protection.
  • Proven reliability: This design proven by the industry offers a tried-and-tested solution for many applications.
  • Cost-effective: Lower investment in comparison with other sealing options. Easy installation and maintenance.

Safety packing

Applications

Particularly useful in applications where the tank cannot be emptied immediately when the agitator requires a new mechanical seal. In the case of leakage, the packing can be adjusted slightly to reduce drip losses to a minimum, allowing operation to continue for a few hours or even days until the seal can be replaced.

This system is recommended as a back-up measure in critical applications where the safety of the product and process has top priority. It is ideal for moderate temperature and pressure conditions and for industries that require cost-effective solutions with minimal maintenance requirements.

This system can be useful if you do not have a spare mechanical seal available and have to wait to acquire one.

Hygienic design

The hygienic design of the mechanical seal means that the spring is not exposed to the product. It includes an optimised base plate and an optional hygienic flange for welding to the tank.

It prioritises easy cleaning and compliance with strict sanitary standards, making it ideal for the pharmaceutical and food industries.

This design minimizes dead zones and areas of residue accumulation that are difficult to clean with CIP, both in the seal area and at the flange.

Hygienic design

Advantages

  • Regulatory compliance: Designed to meet the strict hygiene requirements of the industry.
  • Easy cleaning: It enables effortless cleaning and sterilization by minimising areas where residue can accumulate.
  • Product safety: Reduced risk of contamination.

Applications

Ideal for processes where hygiene is critical, such as the production of food and beverages.

The new sealing options for the DINAMIX SMX side-entry agitator offer optimised solutions and comprehensive coverage for the diverse requirements of the industry. Understanding the unique advantages of each sealing system helps customers to improve efficiency, safety and compliance in their operations. Selecting the appropriate sealing system depends on various factors, including the application, operating conditions, maintenance requirements and regulatory compliance.

We are committed to providing advanced mixing solutions that meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.
